ive probably applied for 2000 jobs in the last 2 years and had 20 interviews. ive had interviews where I couldnt speak because I was so anxious, ive had interviews where I was robotically trying to remember a script and ive had interviews where I was like fuck it and decided to have a laugh and be myself. Both jobs I landed (same company 1 was for a saught after promotion) was where I had the fuck it im going to be myself mentality (I am bubbly person). A senior at my company told me that " you can train someone to do the job but you cant train someones personality or attitude ". Ever since then and watching closely ive realised at least 70% are hiring for personality (with a mix of experience) to make sure you fit in with the team. Before my last interview I literally said lights camera action as i walked in then was bubbly the whole time, i got the job. if there are 2 people with the same experience they will choose the one with the better personality or the one they got along with easier. I try to throw a few hobbies in my about me section as well or something to break the ice. I had a note pad with dot points of possible questions and a scenario that would help me remember, for example " problem - covering 2 jobs at once " small enough they cant read from the other side but a safety net if i get asked a question and i cant remember an answer for it, those few words will get my memory going on my example. just rememebr to show personality, willingness to learn and a can do attitude. I know it sucks that this has pretty much turned into a personality contest but after speaking to multiple high ups this is what they are looking for. I really hope this helps someone, ive been the person crying before an interview and I just wanted to share what ive learnt over the last 6 months. Ive now landed a full time job and am fingers crossed safe from interviews for a while. lights, camera, action, you got this!
