I had a 45-minute interview for a Full-stack Software Engineer – Web Infrastructure position. The interviewer was an Indian guy. He started by asking about my resume and how I would handle high traffic if my team's service architecture was down. I answered message queuing. Then came the coding section. The interviewer asked if I could use Java. I don't usually use Java, but the interviewer insisted, so I went ahead with it. The first question was a standard one: implement a Singleton. I had a basic framework, but the interviewer pointed out a mistake. When I asked what it was, he just said, "Never mind, let's move on to the next question." At this point, I knew things were going badly. Later, I realized I was missing the synchronized keyword. The second question required implementing a Calculator with the input [5, "divide", "3 5", "multiply", "4 7"]. The first number is the number of permits. divide consumes two permits, and multiply consumes one. Permits must be released after each operation. This question tests thread safety. Initially, I didn't explain it clearly. I used a queue to store permits and locked the queue using synchronized. However, the interviewer wasn't satisfied, saying it would be better to lock operations a and b instead of the queue. The overall interview experience was terrible. They asked many clarification questions when I received the question, which I didn't answer much. Regarding coding, the interviewer only pointed out errors, as if they only accepted answers if I explained exactly what they wanted – very picky. Please give me points!
