After entering $100k/year as my desired salary on the application, I was asked to confirm if that was accurate during a screening. I confirmed and the reply was "That's a little high for this position, but we sometimes have roles that open that aren't posted." From previous postings for similar roles from this company, I'd guess this role starts at around $45k. I was then invited for an in person interview that went great, but we didn't discuss a specific position OR salary. It was more about my experience and the way I like to work. I've now been invited for a second in person interview. A company wouldn't invest time into multiple in person interviews if they couldn't at least get close to my number, right?
