So as the title says, I quit my job (as a foreign contractor in a technical position) which was paying me 150k / year. Due to the fact that I'm not looking for a job right now I think some of you might think I'm crazy. The thing is the place was the most toxic job I had (in my 13 years of exp). On the other side I think I'm going to start having revenue on a startup I just made. My view is that the company already saw the dev team as a huge cost while the C-suite is extremely impressed by lovable demos people brought them to showcase. I'm 100% sure in my heart that they'll plan to slim the team and I didn't feel safe either. Currently I'm free to focus on my startup tho after having building what I think ended up being a lot more than an MVP my current effort is finding new clients (it's a b2b saas) and nurturing the clients that are in trial periods of using the software. My advice for people that might be in the same situation but haven't pulled the trigger yet is "go for it", especially if you have saving that will last you 6-24 months. Companies will cut jobs and cost, it's better to have control over your career and put effort into something that has a future than continue working in an unstable and toxic job. Sorry if this post is all over the place, I just wanted to share my recent experience and thoughts
