Been applying for many jobs like most people here and wanted to warn everyone about a scam I was almost a victim of. I received an email about a potential job offer from Buckeye Mountain, a railroad hardware/software company in Ohio. The funny thing was I didn’t remember applying to them, I’ve applied to so many places though I assumed I forgot to mark them down in my spreadsheet. I googled them and the website appeared to be a legitimate business so I replied to them and they sent me a preliminary questionnaire full of technical questions about web development. I submitted that back to them after I finished it and 3 days later I was sent a job offer. This surprised me because having no interview was incredibly odd. They had advertised a rate of $80 per hour so I was very excited but also skeptical. I decided it was quite fishy at this point because of the lack of interview, high pay for a jr position, and no memory of an application. I called a support number on their website (not provided by the email) and spoke with a representative who said the email address was not theirs and that they had several other calls with the same type of issue. Luckily I had not provided any critical personal details at this point, but I imagine soon I’ll be receiving an email made to look like onboarding paper work asking for my social security number and other details. I wanted to warn everyone to be wary as to not fall victim to something similar. This was a rather well orchestrated scam, all email addresses appeared to be legitimate and all communications, the questionnaire, and offer letter all were written in detailed professional language and stamped with the company they were impersonating’s logo. Be careful out there!
