Hey all! Background: I’m currently in the enrollment process for UMGC to make a fifth attempt at getting my degree. All but the last attempt were for different majors. I had to leave my last school due to life issues. My job is paying for this but the only pay for 6 classes a year, while the normal workload is 10 classes a year. I’m not the greatest at math, I try really hard and can usually pass my courses with a B or better, but it takes me a long time to grasp the material. I'm currently doing a few math courses in Khan Academy to see if I can get a head start on the math knowledge I need. Question: my admissions team is advising me that if I want to do Software Engineering and/or Cyber Security that I should change my major from Computer Science to the Cyber Operations as it’s less math heavy. The original plan was to do the Computer Science degree and then go to my old school (my dream school) and potentially get a Masters in Cyber. I’m concerned about changing because I know that essentially the degree is a checkmark to have in order to get hired, but I do want to know which one would look better to potential employers. As far as the classes that are covered, the plan right now is to get a scholarship to cover the rest OR work on building my portfolio and get any needed certificates during the time I don’t have classes. Any advice on what certificates would be needed would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
