I recently completed the interview process at Instacart (Toronto), starting with an online assessment, followed by a recruiter call, two coding rounds, a system design round, and a behavioral interview. In the first coding round, I worked on calculating product sales, costs, and net profit. I couldn't sort the results due to time constraints, but received positive feedback. The second coding round involved calculating delivery times and the number of shoppers needed to maintain a low average wait time.
My solution was correct, and I discussed how to scale it for production. The system design round focused on API and database design for managing categories and products, where I proposed optimizations like pagination and response compression. The behavioral interview covered past projects, and the interviewer was friendly and supportive. However, after waiting for feedback, I was informed that I wasn’t moving forward because they were looking for a "stronger coding candidate." The feedback felt vague and left me unclear on specific areas for improvement. Wouldn’t recommend that place!
