tl;dr I just want to give up Part 1: https://old.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/pr2nf9/learn_from_my_mistakes/ Part 2: https://old.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/psdsra/learn_from_my_mistakespart_2/ I still haven't received the OA from the company I mentioned in part 2, so i wrote them an email. Hopefully, I hear something back in a day or two. On a worse note. I received another OA from a different company. I really liked this company, but the OA just broke my heart. This financial software company is based in Utah and really seemed perfect. It's a Java/MySQL role. Everything about the company seemed awesome. I talked to the HR rep and we had a ton in common. He seemed great and planned to set me up for a technical interview. I received the interviewers email, who immediately sent me an OA. No conversation, no phone calls, just go do it. Okay, I've done tons of OA's, this shouldn't be bad. I was fucking wrong. It was hosted on TestDome. I have never tried this platform, so I tried some sample test questions. The first one was Java and super easy, I finished in about 30 seconds. The second sample question was MySQL that was a simple select order by question that involved one table. Easy peasy. Okay, this will be a breeze! I turned on my webcam for the actual test.(which was required) and began. First real test question, in C. Ummm, really? I think I can hack together a C answer, but why? I had 15 minutes. I googled it and passed the test cases. That sucked, lets go to question 2. Which was in Javascript and required DP. I had 15 minutes for it. Definitely failed test cases, I don't know data structures in JS very well. Guess this is going badly. Third question, C again and it was super hard. Like I wasn't even sure where to begin. I look at the timer, 15 minutes again. At this point, I just closed the test and didn't even submit it. I just gave up. I left about 8 questions unanswered. How the fuck am I ever supposed to get a job? I just want to get paid for doing something I love. Does that mean I have to learn the intricacies of every language on Earth? Lessons learned: 1. No matter what, you are going to get screwed over by tons of companies when trying to find a job. 2. If you see an OA that's screwed up, don't even attempt it, just walk away. So much for that Java role that I really wanted. I guess I'll keep trying, but I don't even know why.
