I have 2YOE as a junior data engineer for a decent company after a bootcamp and have been unemployed for 8 months now after layoffs. BS in Biology, AWS SAA cert, GCP ACE cert, Professionally edited resume, 500+ applications (avoiding remote roles), 9-10 phone screens, 5-6 technical interviews past the phone screen, 2OAs, 1 final round, 0 offers. The technical screenings i’ve gotten for some of these no name companies is ridiculous in my opinion (LC medium python, hard SQL) and they just ghost you after wasting your time. Gonna go back to school to study DS and Algos to upskill and make myself look busy since this gap on my resume is already being questioned by recruiters, but if I knew this was gonna be the case I wouldn’t have switched careers. I’m tired of applying and studying. It was honestly pretty fun at first but now it feels hopeless and like I’m wasting my life. Who knows how stable my job will be when I actually land one smh.
